Partha Sarathi Hansdah survived a labourious schedule to bag a `double` in the 10th All-Orissa Nalco Open Tennis Tournament, which concluded at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today.
Babu, as Hansdah is known in tennis circle, emerged champion in both men`s singles and doubles to take home a total cash prize of Rs 6,600. A tired Hansdah, who played four matches in the final day, leapt in joy and stumbled out of the court after defeating experied Ajay Nishank in the singles final.
Earlier, Hansdah combined with Santosh Mallick to win the doubles title, edging out Vijay Avinandan and Chinmay Pradhan in the closely-contested final.
Women`s singles title went to Nikkie Gargi, who rallied from a set down to beat Ritika Nath 2-1. The defeat denied a `double` to Ritika, who earlier won the girls` under-14 crown, beating Ananya Mishra.
Surjiban Behera (u-18), Adwithiya Pattnaik (u-14) bagged the two boys` singles titles, while the trophy for the winners of the veteran doubles event was claimed by S S Rath and V Raman.
C R Pradhan, CMD of sponsors Nalco, gave away the prizes at the closing function.
Results: Boys u-14 final: Adwithiya Pattnaik bt Sidharth Das 6-3, 6-3.
Boys u-18 final: Surjivan Behera bt Adwithiya Pattnaik 6-3, 7-5.
Men`s single: Semifinals: Ajaya Nishank bt Santosh Mallik 6-1, 6-1, PS Hansdah bt Vijay Avinandan 6-3, 6-3.
Final: Hansdah bt Nishank 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
Women`s singles final: Nikkie Gargi bt Ritika Nath 6-7 (3-7), 6-0, 6-3.
Girls u-14 final: Ritika Nath bt Anannaya Mishra 6-3, 6-0.
Men`s doubles: Semifinals: C Pradhan- V Avinandan bt A Nishank-L Das 8-5: S Mallick- PS Hansdah bt S Behera-A Barik 8-2.
Final: Mallick-Hansdah bt Pradhan-Avinandan 9-7.
